Following the explosion in the number of tweeting celebrities comes the newly launched website TweetCandy.com created by friends and social media fanatics, Ben Austin and Hannah Boore
Nowadays it seems that every celebrity has something to tweet about - but what are you missing out on if you’re not a user of Twitter yourself? Perhaps you are a Twitter user but find keeping up with so many celebrities among other people you follow a bit chaotic?
Nowadays it seems that every celebrity has something to tweet about - but what are you missing out on if you’re not a user of Twitter yourself? Perhaps you are a Twitter user but find keeping up with so many celebrities among other people you follow a bit chaotic?
These are the questions Ben and Hannah were asking themselves over lunch when discussing the rapidly rising number of celebrities on Twitter. It was then that the idea was born to create TweetCandy.com, a website that provided an answer to both of these questions.
Hannah explained "Making the website user friendly was a top priority. We have carefully sought out hundreds of genuine celebrities on Twitter (if you have used Twitter before you will be aware of the number of fake celebrity profiles). We then wanted to create a menu to make it easy to find the celebrities that are of interest to the user so we sorted the celebrities into categories."
By putting the celebrities into categories the user can quickly access the tweets of an individual or a group of celebrities. For example, selecting 'X Factor' from the 'TV' category will display the tweets of the contestants and judges from the show on one page.
Viewing the tweets of individual celebrities can also be done by selecting the individual's name from the relevant category or from the site's Celebrity A-Z list.
One of the important features of this website is that the user does not need to have a Twitter account (or even understand what Twitter is or how it works) yet they can still follow their favourite celebrities and view any photos or video celebrities have linked to in their tweets.
Users also have the option to share interesting tweets with their friends onFacebook and for those already on Twitter, to reply to or retweet messages.
In the pipeline for 2012 are mobile phone apps for the website although the site can currently be viewed comfortably enough on devices with small display screens.
